Elections Have Consequences

Last November, in what many viewed as a shock, Donald Trump was elected President of the United States.  Since then, the United States has witnessed and experienced a wave of racially-tinged incidents that many believe have been encouraged by Trump’s words or actions, or, at least, by his failure to speak out forcefully against such discrimination and hatred.

Fast forward one year, and the Governors’ offices of Virginia and New Jersey have been won by Democrats.  Many view these elections as a harbinger of what’s to come in 2018 and in the Presidential election of 2020.  Indeed, some believe that these elections of this year, 2018 and 2020 will be a direct referendum on Trump, his words, and his conduct.

No one knows what the future will hold, but we know this — we yearn for the days when people who embrace diversity resided in the White House.  However, we cannot go back, we must always go forward.  So who will step forward to pick up the mantle for the policies of inclusion and fairness implemented by the 44th President? We hope it is someone who will model the decorum, grace, and graciousness exhibited by the Obamas.

If you have suggestions, nominations, or ideas of who should be running, please let us know.

Meantime, as we are so often reminded, elections have consequences.  Let’s hope that the gubernatorial elections in Virginia and New Jersey do.
